Story
1. In a cozy house, two rats lived. They were content and happy with their lives, stealing food secretly from the household. One day, they stole a piece of cake together. They could not divide it fairly between themselves. Each one started quarreling, demanding the larger share. To solve the issue, they decided to seek help.
Two Foolish Rats and a Cunning Monkey

3. Once upon a time, in a small village near a forest, there lived a young shepherd boy. Every day, he would take his flock of sheep to graze in the lush green meadows at the edge of the forest. The shepherd was a great liar. He always got pleasure in cheating the villagers with his lies. While tending sheep in the field, he often cried out, "Wolf, Wolf, help, help!" Hearing his shouting, the villagers would rush to him to save him. But the boy would laugh and get pleasure, thinking that the villagers were foolish. One day, a wolf really came. That time, the boy also cried out, "Wolf, Wolf, help, help!"

4. A mouse was playing nearby. While playing, the mouse came on the lion's body. When it came to the lion’s ear, the lion woke up and became very angry. He caught the mouse and said, "O little mouse, how dare you tease me? I'll kill you now."

5. Once there lived an old man in a village. He had three sons. They used to
quarrel with one another. The old man was anxious of this matter. He was always
in a gloomy mood. He thought how to stop the quarrel. The old man was
intelligent. One day he found out a way to stop the quarrel. He made a plan.
Unity Is Strengthএকতা শক্তি
Once there lived an old man in a village.
এক গ্রামে এক বৃদ্ধ মানুষ বাস করতেন।
He had three sons.
তার তিন ছেলে ছিল।
They used to quarrel with one another.
তারা একে অপরের সাথে ঝগড়া করত।
The old man was anxious of this matter.
বৃদ্ধ মানুষটি এই বিষয় নিয়ে উদ্বিগ্ন ছিলেন।
He was always in a gloomy mood.
তিনি সবসময় বিষণ্ণ মেজাজে থাকতেন।
He thought how to stop the quarrel.
তিনি ভাবলেন কীভাবে এই ঝগড়া বন্ধ করা যায়।
The old man was intelligent.
বৃদ্ধ মানুষটি ছিলেন বুদ্ধিমান।
One day he found out a way to stop the quarrel.
একদিন তিনি ঝগড়া থামানোর একটি উপায় খুঁজে পেলেন।
He made a plan.
তিনি একটি পরিকল্পনা করলেন।
He told his elder son to bring some sticks and to tie the sticks in a bundle.
তিনি তার বড় ছেলেকে কিছু লাঠি আনতে বললেন এবং সেগুলোকে একসাথে বেঁধে ফেলতে বললেন।
He told him to break the bundle.
তিনি তাকে ওই আঁটি ভেঙে ফেলতে বললেন।
The elder son could not break the bundle.
বড় ছেলে ওই আঁটি ভাঙতে পারল না।
The same thing happened to the other two brothers.
একই ঘটনা বাকি দুই ভাইয়ের সাথেও ঘটল।
Then the old man then untied the bundle and gave his each son a stick separately to break.
তারপর বৃদ্ধ মানুষটি আঁটিটি খুলে ফেললেন এবং প্রতিটি ছেলেকে আলাদাভাবে একটি লাঠি ভাঙতে দিলেন।
All of them broke the sticks.
তারা সবাই লাঠিগুলো ভেঙে ফেলল।
Then the old man said,
তখন বৃদ্ধ মানুষটি বললেন,
“My boys, you are like the sticks.
“আমার ছেলেরা, তোমরা এই লাঠিগুলোর মতো।
When the sticks were together, you were not able to break them but when they were separated, you could break them easily.
যখন লাঠিগুলো একসাথে ছিল, তখন তোমরা সেগুলো ভাঙতে পারনি, কিন্তু যখন সেগুলো আলাদা ছিল, তখন সহজেই ভেঙে ফেলেছ।
Now if you continue your quarrel, everyone will get a chance to harm you.
এখন যদি তোমরা ঝগড়া চালিয়ে যাও, তাহলে সবাই তোমাদের ক্ষতি করার সুযোগ পাবে।
Remember, unity is strength.”
মনে রেখো, একতাই শক্তি।”
6. Once upon a time, a crow became very thirsty. It was summer and the weather was
very hot. There was little water in that place. The crow flew here and there
looking for water. But it could not find water anywhere. It seems that it
was about to die from the thirst for water. But it did not lose heart.
A Thirsty Crow and a Jar with Little Water

hare is a very speedy animal. It can run very fast. But a tortoise moves very
slowly. It has a heavy shell on its back. Its legs are short. So, it can't move
as fast as other animals. Once upon a time, a hare was very proud of his speed
and cut a joke at a tortoise. One day she said to a tortoise, "I pity you
for your speed." "How can you walk with such a heavy shell on your
back?" "You need not worry friend, hare," said the tortoise.
"If you like, I can run a race with you." The hare sneered,
"What do you want to run a race! Very well, I am ready. I accept your
challenge." At once, both of them started. In a moment the hare got ahead
of the tortoise. The tortoise was moving very slowly with his heavy shell on
his back. The hare stopped halfway and looked back.............

8. Once there were two friends living in the same village. They loved each other
very much. The village people took it as a model. One day two friends were
going through a dense forest. When they reached the middle of the forest,
suddenly they saw a bear coming towards them. Both of them became frightened.
One of the friends knew how to climb up a tree but the other was unable to do
it. The first friend quickly climbed up a tree. He did not think about the
safety of his friend.
A Friend in Need Is a Friend Indeed
Once there were two friends living in the same village.
একবার একই গ্রামের দুই বন্ধু বাস করত।
They loved each other very much.
তারা একে অপরকে খুব ভালোবাসত।
The village people took it as a model.
গ্রামবাসী তাদের বন্ধুত্বকে আদর্শ হিসেবে গ্রহণ করেছিল।
One day two friends were going through a dense forest.
একদিন দুই বন্ধু একটি ঘন জঙ্গলের মধ্য দিয়ে যাচ্ছিল।
When they reached the middle of the forest, suddenly they saw a bear coming towards them.
তারা যখন জঙ্গলের মাঝখানে পৌঁছায়, হঠাৎ তারা দেখতে পেল একটি ভালুক তাদের দিকে আসছে।
Both of them became frightened.
দুজনেই ভয় পেয়ে গেল।
One of the friends knew how to climb up a tree but the other was unable to do it.
এক বন্ধু গাছে ওঠা জানত, কিন্তু অপরজন তা জানত না।
The first friend quickly climbed up a tree.
প্রথম বন্ধু দ্রুত একটি গাছে উঠে গেল।
He did not think about the safety of his friend.
সে তার বন্ধুর নিরাপত্তা নিয়ে ভাবল না।
The other friend became very upset.
অপর বন্ধু খুব দুশ্চিন্তাগ্রস্ত হয়ে পড়ল।
But he did not lose heart.
কিন্তু সে সাহস হারাল না।
He was intelligent.
সে বুদ্ধিমান ছিল।
He knew that a bear did not touch any dead body.
সে জানত যে, ভালুক কোনো মৃতদেহ স্পর্শ করে না।
So, he made a plan.
তাই সে একটি পরিকল্পনা করল।
He lay on the ground just like a dead man.
সে মাটিতে মৃত মানুষের মতো শুয়ে পড়ল।
The bear came and smelt his ear and nose.
ভালুকটি তার কান এবং নাক শুঁকল।
It thought that he was dead.
ভালুকটি মনে করল সে মৃত।
It left the place without doing any harm.
ভালুকটি কোনো ক্ষতি না করেই স্থান ত্যাগ করল।
Seeing this, his friend got down from the tree.
এটি দেখে তার বন্ধু গাছ থেকে নেমে এলো।
He thought the bear might tell his friend something important.
সে ভাবল হয়তো ভালুক তার বন্ধুকে কিছু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কথা বলেছে।
So he asked his friend what the bear whispered into his ears.
তাই সে তার বন্ধুকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল ভালুক তার কানে কী বলেছে।
The first friend wanted to give his friend a good lesson.
প্রথম বন্ধু তার বন্ধুকে একটি ভালো শিক্ষা দিতে চাইল।
So, he said to his friend that the bear had whispered to him, “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”
তাই সে তার বন্ধুকে বলল যে, ভালুক তাকে ফিসফিস করে বলেছে, "বন্ধুর বিপদে যে বন্ধু সাহায্য করে, সেই প্রকৃত বন্ধু।"
9. One day a hungry dog was looking for food. He was walking to and fro to have
some food. But he did not get any opportunity. At last, he was wandering around
a butcher’s shop and seeking an opportunity to steal a piece of meat. After a
while, the butcher went to washroom leaving his shop empty.

Grasp All, Lose All
One day a hungry dog was looking for food.
একদিন একটি ক্ষুধার্ত কুকুর খাবারের খোঁজে ছিল।
He was walking to and fro to have some food.
সে খাবারের জন্য এদিক-ওদিক হাঁটছিল।
But he did not get any opportunity.
কিন্তু সে কোনো সুযোগ পাচ্ছিল না।
At last, he was wandering around a butcher’s shop and seeking an opportunity to steal a piece of meat.
অবশেষে, সে একটি কসাইখানার চারপাশে ঘুরছিল এবং মাংসের একটি টুকরা চুরি করার সুযোগ খুঁজছিল।
After a while, the butcher went to the washroom leaving his shop empty.

19. Once upon a time there was a king. His name was Midas. The king was very
greedy. He was very much fond of gold. Although he had a lot of it, he wanted
more. He thought if he had the golden touch he would be the happiest man in the
world. He always thought it and wanted gold. Even he prayed to the gods to fulfill
his desire. At last, a wise god granted his prayer.

20. You must have heard the name of the great poet Sheikh Saadi. He was a great
scholar. He was very simple in his way of life. Once, the king of Persia
invited the poet to his palace. The palace of the king was too far. It was
impossible for anyone to reach there within one day. However, Saadi started for
the king’s palace. On the way, he took shelter in a rich man’s house.

He was not rich but passed his life with great happiness.

One day, he was cutting wood near a pond in the jungle.

At once his axe fell into the pond.

The pond was very deep.

He was at a loss for what to do.

Finding no other way, he prayed to God for help.

Then a strange incident occurred.

A beautiful fairy came out of the water and asked him why he was not cutting wood.
একটি সুন্দর পরী পানির থেকে উঠে এসে তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করল কেন তিনি কাঠ কাটছেন না।
The wood-cutter described the incident in details.
কাঠুরে ঘটনাটি বিস্তারিতভাবে বর্ণনা করলেন।
The fairy dived into the water and brought a silver axe.
পরী পানিতে ডুব দিয়ে একটি রূপালী কুঠি এনে দিল।
She asked him if it was his axe.
তিনি তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, "এটি কি আপনার কুঠি?"
The wood-cutter saw the axe and said, “No."
কাঠুরে কুঠিটি দেখলেন এবং বললেন, "না।"
Then the fairy showed him another axe made of gold and asked, "Is this the axe that you lost?"
এরপর পরী তাকে একটি সোনালী কুঠি দেখিয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, "এটি কি আপনার হারানো কুঠি?"
The wood-cutter said, "No."
কাঠুরে বললেন, "না।"
The fairy showed him the lost axe with a wooden handle.
পরী তাকে কাঠের হাতলযুক্ত হারানো কুঠিটি দেখাল।
The wood-cutter then said happily that it was exactly his axe.
কাঠুরে তখন আনন্দিত হয়ে বললেন যে এটি ঠিক তার কুঠি।
Seeing the honesty of the wood-cutter the fairy became very pleased and gave him both the gold and the silver axes along with his old iron axe.
কাঠুরের সততা দেখে পরী খুব খুশি হয়ে তাকে তার পুরানো লোহা কুঠির সাথে সোনালী এবং রূপালী কুঠি দুটি দিলেন।
Then, the wood-cutter became rich and began to live happily.
তারপর, কাঠুরে ধনী হয়ে উঠলেন এবং সুখীভাবে জীবনযাপন করতে শুরু করলেন।
It was the reward of his honesty.

One day the crow got a chance. একদিন কাকটি একটি সুযোগ পেয়েছিল।
While walking through a jungle he found some feathers of a peacock. একটি জঙ্গলের মধ্যে হাঁটতে হাঁটতে সে একটি ময়ূরের কিছু পালক পায়।
He took the opportunity of using the feathers of the peacock to fulfill his goal. সে তার লক্ষ্য পূরণ করার জন্য ময়ূরের পালক ব্যবহার করার সুযোগ নিয়েছিল।

Soon the peacocks found out that he was just a crow in the guise of a peacock. শীঘ্রই ময়ূররা বুঝতে পারলো যে সে শুধুই একটি কাক, ময়ূরের সাজে।
They pulled all the feathers out and drove the crow away. তারা সব পালকগুলো খুলে নিয়ে কাকটিকে তাড়িয়ে দিল।
He returned to the crows. সে কাকদের কাছে ফিরে গিয়েছিল।
Unfortunately, the crows did not accept him. দুঃখজনকভাবে, কাকেরা তাকে গ্রহণ করেনি।

She thought that there might be many eggs in the hen’s belly.
সে ভাবল যে মুরগীর পেটে হয়তো অনেক ডিম থাকতে পারে।
Then she shared the idea with her husband.
তাহলে সে তার স্বামীকে এই ধারণাটি শেয়ার করল।
Her husband did not agree with her.
তার স্বামী তাকে সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সাড়া দিলেন না।
He told his wife not to be so greedy. They had enough wealth to run their family well.
তিনি তার স্ত্রীর কাছে বললেন, “তুমি এত লোভী হওয়ার প্রয়োজন নেই। আমাদের কাছে এত সম্পদ রয়েছে যে আমাদের পরিবার ভালভাবে চলবে।”
One day the farmer went to his fields.
একদিন কৃষক তার খেতের দিকে গেলেন।
The greedy woman got a chance.

She took a sharp knife.

But alas! There was no egg in the belly.

The farmer asked her wife, “What happened”.

His wife told him the fact in details.
